Delta Showdown: ADC and APC Leaders Clash Over Motion to Support Oborevwori’s Re-Election!

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State have disagreed over alleged plans to make Governor Sheriff Oborevwori the sole candidate of the APC in the 2027 state governorship election.

While a Chieftain of ADC in the state, Chief Julius Efeni Akpovoka has said apart from the APC constitution, the agenda is not right in the sight of justice, fair play and morality, Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North urged supporters and electorates in Anioma to give total support to Oborevwori and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 gubernatorial and presidential elections.

Nwoko spoke on Sunday at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Delta State chapter of APC in Asaba.

The federal lawmaker said Delta North political leaders and the generality of the populace were united in their resolve to back Oborevwori for a second term come 2027.

“Delta North Senatorial district as a whole will support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori 100%. Let me assure that he has the backing of politicians and people of Delta North on 2027. He has our total goodwill. Delta North is for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

“We are also committed to the administration of His Excellency President Bola Tinubu and his reelection in 2027. We are all united in Delta North towards the success of the APC at the state and federal levels,” Nwoko stated

Meanwhile, Akpovoka lambasted the Minister of Aviation, Chief Festus Keyamo for spearheading the endorsement.

Akpovoka was reacting to the outcome of a stakeholders meeting where Keyamo moved a motion calling for the endorsement of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the sole candidate of the party for the 2027 guber election. The motion was seconded by Engr Victor Ochei and other leaders toed the line.

The motion also called for the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu as the sole candidate of the party for the 2027 presidential election.

Reacting, Akpovoka expressed disappointment that Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who should be capable of interpreting the APC constitution properly in accordance with its letters as it concerns party primary election matters, had chosen to do otherwise.

”I am so disappointed that with all that is happening in Delta State; poor infrastructure, insecurity across the state especially in Agbarho, poor healthcare delivery, poor educational facilities with children lying on the floor to learn, low economic opportunities.

“Yet you Keyamo can rise up and move a motion asking the national leadership of APC to submit the governorship form of only one person to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 election.

“What happened in 2023 in PDP will not happen in APC in 2027. Whether it is PDP, APC, ADC, Labour party; we are going to spread across all the political parties. We the entire youths and people of Delta state will be focused.

“This is not the time of street governor. This is the time we need somebody who is focused to be governor of Delta State in 2027. We don’t want a street governor with street sense anymore.

“We are Urhobo and we Urhobo will determine who completes our tenure not somebody from Delta North who brought his stooge to become a governor of the state, and look at what he is doing, receiving over N3 trillion within the period he has become a governor without any tangible thing to show for it and you are calling on members of APC to endorse him for a second term in office, it will not happen in Delta State.

“Go and study the Constitution of the APC, examine the position you have taken and judge if what you did is right in the sight of justice, fair play and morality. You cannot deceive us. We, the people of Delta Central will come together and chose our governor who will serve out the remaining four years so that we will not continue with this Street Governor anymore,” he warned.

Defections: Tinubu’s one-party state agenda gradually coming into reality - ADC

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, says the recent defections of the governors of Enugu and Bayelsa States to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, confirm its long-held warning that President Bola Tinubu is determined to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the defections as a betrayal of the people and a dangerous sign for Nigeria’s democracy.

Abdullahi said that while the defections might appear to strengthen the APC, they in fact represent a loss for democracy and a deliberate effort by the ruling party to weaken the opposition and consolidate unchecked power.

“The recent defections by the governors of Enugu and Bayelsa States to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, validate the African Democratic Congress, ADC’s long-standing warning that President Bola Tinubu is determined to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, no matter the cost to democracy or national stability,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC alleged that the defected governors abandoned their citizens and aligned with a government that has, in its words, made life ‘miserable’ for the majority of Nigerians.

According to the party, Nigerians were already experiencing the daily failures of the APC government, citing insecurity, economic hardship, and poor social welfare as evidence of misgovernance.

It further stated that the Tinubu’s administration had failed in all major areas of governance, including insecurity, economic management, healthcare, anti-corruption, and foreign policy.

“Every day, Nigerians are paying the price for these failures. Food prices continue to increase, jobs are non-existent, and insecurity continues to choke every part of the country,” the ADC stated.

Governor Mbah coerced into joining APC - PDP spokesman Ologunagba

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Debo Ologunagba, has alleged that the defection of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was due to intimidation.

Ologunagba made the allegation on Wednesday during an interview on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television, monitored by DAILY POST.

Recall that Governor Mbah, on October 14, announced his move from PDP to APC, citing neglect of the South-East by the party.

Ologunagba also alleged that the defection of key members of PDP to APC is the result of external pressure from the ruling party.

“This defection is not based on conviction, or some other programmes of the APC that is attractive; it is induced by personal considerations, intimidation, coercion, and threats.

“The fact is that there is a deliberate action by the government, and the president has said openly that he will wish to have a one-party state,” he said.

The spokesman described the PDP as a broad-based party with people-oriented policies and programmes, noting that it is focused on its forthcoming national convention in Oyo State.

Ologunagba pointed out that the records of his party, under its 16 years of governance, can secure it more elected positions in the 2027 elections.

He accused some members of PDP of undermining the party, adding that such issues would be addressed.
