Revealed: Why APC’s Deceitful Years Are Causing Major Defections to PDP!

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Saturday said the wave of defections in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is due to consequence of years of internal deceit, lack of ideology, and serial betrayal among its leaders.

It said for years, the PDP thrived on propaganda, blackmail, empty rhetoric, hence its members have lost confidence in the party.

A statement signed by the spokesman of the state chapter of the party, Seye Oladejo, said defection is only the beginning of the PDP’s implosion.

According Oladejo: “The attention of the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to the pitiable attempt by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to downplay the wave of defections currently rocking its already fractured structure.

“The PDP’s claim that defections cannot break it is not only laughable but also betrays the party’s chronic state of denial, delusion and self-deception.

“Let it be clearly stated that what is happening to the PDP today is not mere political migration – it is the inevitable consequence of years of internal deceit, lack of ideology, and serial betrayal among its leaders.

“When a house is built on quicksand, it doesn’t take much for it to collapse. The ongoing exodus from the PDP is only a confirmation that even its loyalists have lost faith in a party that has consistently failed to reform itself or offer a credible alternative to Nigerians.

“The APC is not surprised, for years, the PDP has thrived on propaganda, blackmail, and empty rhetoric. But Nigerians are wiser now.

“The party that once mismanaged the nation’s fortunes for sixteen wasteful years cannot suddenly reinvent itself as a credible opposition when it remains a cesspool of confusion and leadership vacuum.”

Oladejo said the defection is a sign of the confidence reposed in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by members of the opposition.

He said: “The Lagos APC wishes to remind the PDP that no amount of public posturing can mask the deep cracks within its fold. Its so-called unity is nothing but a fragile alliance of opportunists whose only common ground is desperation for power.

“The recent defection of key figures from the PDP to the APC is a testament to the growing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which is already yielding measurable progress across critical sectors.

“At this point, the few remaining members of the PDP are perhaps the undertakers – staying behind only to perform the final rites and fittingly dispose of what remains of a once-dominant but now lifeless political carcass.”

He challenged the former ruling party to start learning to walk alone ahead of the 2027 elections.

“It will serve the PDP’s best interest to start learning to walk alone on the dark, bumpy road to 2027. The party is obviously over for the former “largest party in Africa,” and the sooner it confronts that reality, the less humiliating its final exit will be.

“Rather than issuing hollow press statements, the PDP should look inward, conduct an honest post-mortem of its failures, and come to terms with the reality that its relevance in Nigeria’s political space has drastically waned.

“The opposition cannot claim to be unshaken when its members are fleeing in droves to a party that represents progress, stability, and genuine leadership.

“For the APC, these defections are not just political victories – they are endorsements of our party’s enduring commitment to national renewal and people-centered governance. The Nigerian people are speaking loudly and the message is clear: the era of deceitful opposition politics is over,” he added.

Defections: Tinubu’s one-party state agenda gradually coming into reality - ADC

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, says the recent defections of the governors of Enugu and Bayelsa States to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, confirm its long-held warning that President Bola Tinubu is determined to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the defections as a betrayal of the people and a dangerous sign for Nigeria’s democracy.

Abdullahi said that while the defections might appear to strengthen the APC, they in fact represent a loss for democracy and a deliberate effort by the ruling party to weaken the opposition and consolidate unchecked power.

“The recent defections by the governors of Enugu and Bayelsa States to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, validate the African Democratic Congress, ADC’s long-standing warning that President Bola Tinubu is determined to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, no matter the cost to democracy or national stability,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC alleged that the defected governors abandoned their citizens and aligned with a government that has, in its words, made life ‘miserable’ for the majority of Nigerians.

According to the party, Nigerians were already experiencing the daily failures of the APC government, citing insecurity, economic hardship, and poor social welfare as evidence of misgovernance.

It further stated that the Tinubu’s administration had failed in all major areas of governance, including insecurity, economic management, healthcare, anti-corruption, and foreign policy.

“Every day, Nigerians are paying the price for these failures. Food prices continue to increase, jobs are non-existent, and insecurity continues to choke every part of the country,” the ADC stated.

Governor Mbah coerced into joining APC - PDP spokesman Ologunagba

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Debo Ologunagba, has alleged that the defection of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was due to intimidation.

Ologunagba made the allegation on Wednesday during an interview on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television, monitored by DAILY POST.

Recall that Governor Mbah, on October 14, announced his move from PDP to APC, citing neglect of the South-East by the party.

Ologunagba also alleged that the defection of key members of PDP to APC is the result of external pressure from the ruling party.

“This defection is not based on conviction, or some other programmes of the APC that is attractive; it is induced by personal considerations, intimidation, coercion, and threats.

“The fact is that there is a deliberate action by the government, and the president has said openly that he will wish to have a one-party state,” he said.

The spokesman described the PDP as a broad-based party with people-oriented policies and programmes, noting that it is focused on its forthcoming national convention in Oyo State.

Ologunagba pointed out that the records of his party, under its 16 years of governance, can secure it more elected positions in the 2027 elections.

He accused some members of PDP of undermining the party, adding that such issues would be addressed.
